What Future for Europe?

Political debate with the candidates running for the European elections.

Open Estonia Foundation and Estonishing Evenings present: What Future for Europe

European Parliament elections will be held in Estonia on 26 May 2019. Besides Estonians, the citizens of other EU member states who reside in Estonia, have the right to vote at the European Parliament elections.

If you believe that the future of Estonia and Europe depend on every one of us and want to get an overview of different parties’ views on matters concerning Europe, join us at the debate at the Club of Different Rooms on the evening of 6 May!

Estonia celebrates 15 years of the EU membership on 1 May. According to a poll carried out by the Eurobarometer in 2018, 74 percent of Estonian citizens believe that Estonia benefits from being a member of the European Union, while the average indicator in the EU stands at 64 percent.

Respondents in Estonia consider most important the right to work, travel and study anywhere in the EU, with 52 percent expressing that wish. This was followed by the protection of fundamental rights and adequate pensions with 38 percent. Estonian citizens expect the European Parliament to safeguard human rights, freedom of speech and standing for the solidarity between EU member states — with 58 percent, 36 percent and 27 percent of respondents respectively expressing those wishes.

The debate was moderated by Joao Rei and Silver Tambur.

The event is supported by European Commission Europe for Citizens programme and is part of the EU Solutions Lab project that brings together partners from Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia and Brussels.
