“Art isn’t a result, it is a journey”.
Estonishing Life’s next event is about the Estonian art scene and artists who are travellers in all kinds of different ways.
The evening takes place at the brand-new Solaris Gallery and begins with a short introduction by Meelis Tammemägi and Daisy Inslermann, who will introduce the recently opened art venue, as well as give an overview of art galleries and museums in Estonia. They are followed by Andra Orn who will speak about Tallinn Biennial and introduce places to find information about all the art-related events and exhibition openings.
Afterwards, the stage belongs to three artists whose work is currently exhibited at the Solaris Gallery – Tarrvi Laamann (Estonia), Meriliis ‘MERU’ Rinne (Estonia), Julia Valtanen (Russia) and Mariia Bonchuk (Ukraine). All four artists have moved away from their homeland, but there’s a common connection to Estonia. There will be an open discussion about their personal journeys as artists – the joys and difficulties of travelling; artists’ roles in different societies and many other topics. Everyone is also encouraged to ask questions.
There will be a huge canvas and everyone can paint and create art together with Tarrvi Laamann! Some snacks and drinks are also included – and there’s always the option to buy more at the bar.
Solaris Gallery is the newest addition to the trendy downtown neighbourhood of Tallinn and the biggest contemporary art gallery in the area, ran by Bohemian Galleries. The stylishly minimalist gallery exhibits emerging, mid-career, and established artists from Estonia and the world, bringing forward contemporary works through paintings, photography, street art, installations, assemblage, and infused mediums. The mission of Bohemian Galleries is to bridge various artist communities and provide its artists with greater exposure to new markets.
The event is free for everyone.
The project “Supporting the adaptation of newly arrived foreigners” is funded by the European Social Fund and by the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Estonia.
